History of TI and TASC Toastmasters

Toastmasters International

Toastmasters International (TI) is the largest non-profit educational organization that teaches communication and leadership skills through a worldwide network of chartered clubs.

The organization began in 1924, led by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley in Santa Ana, California.  Dr. Smedley wanted to create an organization “to afford practice and training in the art of public speaking and in presiding over meetings, and to promote sociability and good fellowship among its members.”

Headquartered in Rancho Santa Margarita, California, the organization currently has over 220,000 members in more than 11,300 clubs in 90 countries. Since 1924, Toastmasters International has helped people of all backgrounds across the globe to become more confident as a leader and communicator.

TASC Toastmasters

TASC Toastmasters was charted in November 1999 as a closed corporate club for TASC (Northrop Grumman).  In November 2001, the club opened membership to the public and has seen growth ever since.

The club membership has included project managers, engineering professionals, contractors, realtors, sales representatives, community activists, entrepreneurs, school board members, fund raisers, retirees, students, caterers, pastor and a county sheriff deputy.
