2009 Aug ExComm Meeting Minutes

Meeting Minutes and Actions from August Meeting

1

Joe Short presented the Youth Leadership Program that he will be coordinating for high school students this upcoming school year.  The Youth Leadership Program is a public speaking program developed by Toastmasters International and sponsored by its local clubs.  Joe asked the executive committee if TASC Toastmasters would sponsor the program.  The executive committee unanimously agreed to sponsor the program.  The approximate cost of the sponsorship is $60.  This would cover books and certificates for the youth members.

The committee asked Joe to provide several updates to the club during the school year of the Youth Leadership program.  Joe was also asked to consider using this program as a High Performance Leadership (HPL) project for credit toward his ALS.  Suggest that Joe notify us of his HPL decision during next month’s meeting.

The Executive committee is interested in finding out from its members what they like/dislike about the weekly meetings and what suggestions they have for improvement.

Lisa will draft 4-5 questions and send to the executive committee for review and approval.  Once approved, the questions will be put in the form of a questionnaire and provided to the members at the weekly meeting for them to complete.  All completed questionnaires will be anonymous.

Joe has TASC Toastmaster fliers that promote the TASC Toastmaster club.  Joe is going to send the fliers to Tommy Comeau.  Tommy will post the fliers in the 15036 Conference Center Drive Building as well as the Westfield Building.  Since the club is sponsored by TASC the executive committee felt it wasn’t appropriate to place the fliers in non- Northrop Grumman TASC buildings.

Joe Short will send Tommy Comeau the TASC Toastmaster promotional fliers.

The Executive Committee discussed social networking sites to publicize the TASC Toastmasters club.  Frank mentioned that he created a TASC Toastmaster group in “Linked-In”.  To find the group, just search under groups for “TASC Toastmasters”.

Tommy Comeau agreed to set up a TASC Toastmaster facebook page.

Wendy Daunheimer will provide the links to these social networking sites on the TASC Toastmasters home page.

Wendy proposed extending the weekly Toastmaster meeting by 15 minutes.  By adding the additional time, it would ensure that everyone could complete their speeches and leadership manuals.  Lisa expressed concern that the additional 15 minutes would be difficult to make up for those who travel to the meeting from another location.  No decision was made and Wendy is going to send an email to the executive committee outlining how the additional time would be spent.

Wendy will send out an email to the executive committee outlining each segment of the meeting and how the additional time would be spent.
